Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for a motivated and driven Research Specialist to join Professor Maria Eriksson’ s research group at the Division of Integrative Cardiovascular, Cancer and Aging Research (ICCA) at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, to study somatic mutations in age-related diseases.

Description of the subject area

The research aims to increase our understanding of somatic mutations and their functional relevance in the development of age-related diseases, see link for more information https://ki.se/en/research/research-areas-centres-and-networks/research-groups/genetic-mechanisms-of-ageing-maria-erikssons-research-group#tab-start

The research group has expertise in molecular studies of aging. The current focus is on the vascular wall, but we also investigate age-related diseases in other tissues. We use modern genomic technologies that enable detailed analysis down to single-cell resolution to address disease-relevant questions using tissue samples from patients and various models.

Your mission

As a Research Specialist you are expected to plan and design laboratory experiments, perform experimental work, interpret the results, and the prepare the results in the form of presentations and research publications. In addition, you will be expected to participate in the supervision of more junior colleagues and to take on administrative responsibilities within the group, being one of the more senior members. The research work includes standard molecular biology methods, immunostainings, histology, cell culture, next generation applications for genome-wide analysis (single-cell RNA and DNA sequencing), and digital droplet PCR. We use tissue samples from patients and model systems. You are expected to be part of the group and to develop in accordance with the common group goals and research interests.

Eligibility requirements

For employment as Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements stated in the Guidelines for non-teaching positions at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.

The candidate should have at least three years of postdoctoral experience in a relevant field, such as molecular genetics, molecular medicine, regenerative medicine and aging, age-related diseases.

The applicant must have a doctoral degree in molecular genetics, or similar field and proven expertise in work with both patient samples and transgenic mouse model. A publication record that includes scientific studies on the molecular aspects of aging, premature aging, or age-related diseases is highly meritorious. Furthermore, high attention to detail as well as understanding of the overall scope of the work are highly evaluated. We are looking for a motivated and team-oriented person with excellent English skills and knowledge in tissue physiology. Proven experience in performing independent experimental work with modern molecular methods (including digital droplet PCR, FACS, and various phenotyping methods of mice). The applicant must have training certificates and proven experience for animal work.

Emphasis will be put on personal suitability

Assessment criteria

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
