This position will be part of Prof. Peter Bergman’s group at the Department of Laboratory Medicine (Labmed) and will be under the direct supervision of Assistant Professor Karl Carlström. Carlström team focuses on epigenetic and metabolic interplay in oligodendrocytes relevant to multiple neurodegenerative diseases like Multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. To achieve this, we are applying various leading-edge tools for genome engineering and cell profiling.
The Department of Laboratory Medicine offers a uniquely integrated research setting, bridging advanced molecular science with direct clinical applications. This deeply translational environment enables meaningful collaboration between basic scientists and clinicians, accelerating the path from research insight to patient benefit.
This research assistant position offers the opportunity to apply genome engineering technologies (including CRISPR prime editing and CRISPRi/a) and transcriptome/epigenome profiling tools (including Cut&Tag) primary in vitro (including immortalized cell lines and iPSC-derived brain resident cells). The position is a full-time and with an initial duration of 6 months.
The applicant has a MSc degree in experimental medicine/chemistry/biology. The applicant should have experience from and be able to master fundamental molecular techniques such as (qRT)-PCR, molecular cloning, transduction/transfection of viruses/plasmids to cells and cell culture. In addition, experience with CRISPR/Cas9-based genome engineering and next generation sequencing is highly meritorious.
