The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical, and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.

Your mission

Mikael Björnstedt’s research group is searching a Research specialist to study the antitumor effects of selenium compounds as cancer therapeutics, we perform translational and clinical studies focusing on redox-active selenium compounds as chemotherapeutic treatment of cancer. The research has a wide span including both clinical trials and mechanistic studies with focus on drug action.

Primary duties included in the role are:

  • Managing your own research projects
  • Teaching and supervision of junior staff, students
  • Ongoing contact with collaboration partners
  • Writing and publishing of scientific articles

Eligibility requirements

For employment as Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements stated in the Guidelines for non-teaching positions at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented postdoctoral research experience.

Assessment criteria

  1. PhD with finished postdoc with a strong background within medical biotechnology, Pathology and cancer therapeuitics.
  2. Extensive experience and expert knowledge concerning selenium compounds, molecular biology, transcriptomics, flow cytometry, enzym kinetics, protein expression and purification, cell death assessments and quantifications.
  3. Experience from work with lipid nanoparticles.
  4. Experience of ex vivo-models.
  5. Experience of IHC.
  6. Documented scientific productivity with publications in per-review journals
  7. Excellent skills in written and oral English.
  8. Of particular importance are social competence, ability to collaborate with others and a genuine passion for science.
