The Department of Medicine in Huddinge (MedH) is one of Karolinska Institutet's largest. We are responsible for education and research in internal medicine at KI's southern campus in Flemingsberg. The research spans basic, translational and clinical projects in internal medicine. The endocrinology activities at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge are extensive and successful – especially in diabetes, lipid disorders and osteoporosis.
Preparatory internal medicine education in medical diagnostics and basic scientific integration is partly conducted at MedH and is traditionally linked to clinical endocrinology and metabolic diseases. As a senior lecturer with a combined position, you will be a key person in the academic endocrinology environment. You will have a combined assignment in education and research – with the opportunity to influence and develop the medicine of the future.
Endocrinology is a cornerstone among the internal medicine specialties that include everything from common diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis and lipid disorders to highly specialized care in pituitary gland diseases, adrenal gland diseases, neuroendocrine tumor diseases, congenital metabolic disorders, etc.
The endocrinology unit at Karolinska University Hospital has breadth and cutting-edge expertise that cannot be matched by any other unit in the Nordic region and is highly ranked in Newsweek's ranking of specialized units.
Medical education is currently undergoing significant changes in the form of integration of digital methods and simulation tools, as well as an increased focus on interprofessional collaboration, early clinical exposure, team-based learning, and person-centered care. To strengthen the role of education in an increasingly production-driven healthcare environment without jeopardizing the education's research connection, we are now looking for someone who wants to work as a senior lecturer with combined employment and take responsibility for parts of the department's educational assignment. The assignment includes ensuring research connection in education by conducting and developing your own research.
You who apply for this position are specialists in endocrinology. You have a pedagogical interest, qualifications in teaching and have your own successful research in the field of endocrinology and the ambition to develop your research in parallel with your work in education.
To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific skills, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical skills; very good scientific skills, and clinical skills.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
The employment will be combined with an employment as a specialist physician, assistant chief physician or chief physician in Endocrinology at the Medical Unit Endocrinology, Karolinska University Hospital and therefore you must have a Swedish MD with specialist competence in Endocrinology as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.
Since the position includes clinical work, you must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale, CERS).
The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (2), pedagogical skills (3), leadership and collaboration skills (2), and clinical skills (2).
