Come join the Engblom and Villablanca labs! A lab manager position is available in the intersection of mucosal immunology, cancer, and spatial transcriptomics, with the ultimate goal to understand and harness immune responses in human diseases. The Engblom and Villablanca labs form a tight-knit collaborative team of scientists with diverse expertise dedicated to unravelling immune responses during cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and at mucosal surfaces using cutting-edge technologies.

Your mission

The applicant will work in close collaboration with the PIs, PhD students, postdocs, and other researchers to help shape a well-functioning collaborative laboratory environment. The applicant is expected to perform lab managerial, administrative, and some specialized laboratory tasks (such as cell culture, molecular biology, cryosectioning, animal work and/or protein stainings) involving samples from human cancer patients or animal models. The applicant is expected to be highly engaged, structured, flexible, curious, and a team player.

Your profile

We are looking for a competent, organized and energetic person to be a lab manager for the Engblom and Villablanca labs. The job will include a diverse set of tasks, including helping to write ethical protocols, general laboratory tasks (ordering, invoicing, etc.), sample organization, and scheduling.

Requirements:

  • A degree in laboratory or biological sciences
  • Experience in lab managerial tasks (including ordering, invoicing, and lab safety)
  • Expertise in lab organization
  • Experience of experimental work (as the lab performs a range of different methods, different profiles can be considered)
  • Demonstrated commitment to solving problems and promoting a good working environment
  • Fluency in written and spoken Swedish and English

Merits (not required)

  • Experience in molecular biology, single-cell/spatial transcriptomics
  • Experience coordinating patient sample collection
  • Expertise in cryosectioning
  • Experience managing animal colonies
  • Expertise in protein staining/IHC/IF
  • Experience in teaching
  • Experience working in international and diverse environments

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of ten divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within   the laboratories of Dr. Camilla Engblom (SciLifeLab Fellow) and Dr. Eduardo Villablanca (Wallenberg Academy Fellow) in the Immunology and Respiratory Medicine division, and physically located at CMM (both labs) and SciLifeLab (Engblom lab). The labs focus areas are inflammatory bowel disease (Villablanca lab) and cancer immunology (Engblom lab), and both labs study pre-clinical and clinical samples. In addition, the groups have national and international collaborative projects within host-microbe interactions, vaccine research, technological development (in spatial biology), and mucosal immunology. The groups also work closely with multiple SciLifeLab and CMM infrastructure and facilities to answer their scientific questions, resulting in a multidisciplinary research environment. The labs aim to foster a creative, diverse, and inclusive work environment with the goal for all lab members to answer ambitious and exciting scientific questions. The labs are located within a vibrant immunology community with expertise in inflammation, infection, allergy and autoimmune diseases.
