Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
Chronic inflammation is a hallmark of cardiovascular disease, such as atherosclerosis, and factors released by immune cells may exert effects on structural cells of the cardiovascular system. Certain lipid mediators are known for their role in the resolution of inflammation. The topic in focus for this education is to characterize a mouse model where one of these receptors has been genetically deleted, and understand the effect of this deletion in the progression of atherosclerosis.
Our division focuses on various fields of cardiovascular research, particularly in the role of different key players in cardiovascular diseases, such as smooth muscle, endothelial and immune cells, adipocytes, neurons and red blood cells. This provides a unique overview on how the different cell compartments might contribute to and interact in disease progression
The student is expected to perform literature search and study on the topic, and to prepare and present seminars to the lab members. Practically, the student will perform cryosectioning of mouse samples, and immunostaining on the mouse cryosections.
Students with experience in cryosectioning of mouse aortic roots will be given priority. As well, previous laboratory experience, i.e. being able to independently perform experiments, interpret results and write reports, will be considered an advantage.
A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities.
