The Centre for Infectious Medicine (CIM), at Department of Medicine Huddinge is a leading translational research center hosting several groups working in areas such as infection biology, immunology, and cell therapy. At CIM, research and development in NK cell biology and cell therapy is conducted under the leadership of Professor Karl-Johan Malmberg. The group conducts clinical trials and has access to a GMP facility for the production of clinically approved cell- and gene-based therapeutic products. The group also maintains close collaborations with industrial partners for the development of next-generation cell therapies.
The Malmberg Lab operates across two nodes — Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm, Sweden, and the University of Oslo (UiO), Norway — and currently consists of 18 members. We are now seeking a laboratory manager who will take overall administrative and logistical responsibility for the research group and contribute to the development of novel NK cell–based immunotherapies at Karolinska Institutet. Our work is closely connected to GMP laboratories in Sweden and Norway, relevant ATMP networks, and regulatory authorities (EMA, the Swedish Medical Products Agency, and the regional ethical committee).
The lab manager will be responsible for organizational, logistical, and administrative tasks within the group (40%) as well as research-related activities (60%). The research-related duties include contact with our clinical collaborators, collection and processing of tumor cells and lymphocytes from various types of fresh human tissues, including samples from ongoing clinical trials. The candidate will also perform flow cytometric and spectral analyses (BD Symphony and Cytec Aurora) and cell sorting (BD FACSAria and SONY sorter), as well as multiplex spatial protein analyses. Other experimental methods will also be applied.
The administrative responsibilities include maintaining a good laboratory work environment, handling orders, preparing documentation for various types of applications and permits, and organizing databases and datasets. The candidate will also be responsible for the group’s social media platforms and website. It is expected that the candidate participates in project meetings, supervises students and other researchers when needed, and contributes to other common laboratory tasks.
The candidate must hold a PhD degree in the field of biomedicine, medicine or immunology. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
The candidate should have a strong, documented background in single-cell analyses, including multiparametric flow cytometry, cell sorting, and functional immunological assays, as well as tissue processing, isolation, and culture of primary cells. Experience with large datasets and databases is an advantage, as are skills in multiplex immunohistochemistry and microscopy. Furthermore, the candidate should be independent, eager to learn, and willing to take on new tasks in a dynamic research environment. The candidate must have strong communication skills and documented experience working effectively and productively in an interdisciplinary team.
The applicant must have excellent organizational skills, take on a leadership role when needed, be accurate and flexible, and have the ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines as well as to handle multiple projects in parallel. Fluency in English is a requirement as well as some basic skills and willingness to learn Swedish. We put great emphasis on personal suitability.
