Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Meletis laboratory, in the Department of Neuroscience at Biomedicum, Karolinska Institutet, has an open position for a Research Assistant to support projects investigating the molecular organization and identity of neuron subtypes in circuits controlling motivated behavior and decision-making, including circuit dysfunction in mouse models of stress and mood disorders.

Your profile

Our laboratory has made significant advances in defining the organization and function of subcortical circuits (basal ganglia, hypothalamus, habenula). We are looking for a motivated Research Assistant with an interest in molecular and cellular neuroscience, with strong laboratory and analytical skills. The successful candidate will contribute to experiments using advanced molecular methods such as single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and viral approaches for genetic labeling and connectivity mapping.

Your mission

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting molecular biology and histological experiments (e.g., tissue processing, RNA/DNA work, sequencing library preparation).
  • Supporting the use of single-cell and spatial transcriptomic tools to define the molecular organization of brain circuits.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of mouse models used in the laboratory.
  • Data organization, statistical analysis, and coordination of lab resources.
  • Working collaboratively with team members across different projects.

Qualifications:

  • A BSc or MSc degree in molecular biology, neuroscience, biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Experience with molecular techniques (e.g. single-cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics), mouse behavior, or neuroanatomy using viral tracing.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work productively in an interdisciplinary research team.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
