We are seeking a bioinformatician for a temporary position. You will play an important role in the ongoing implementation of large-scale DNA sequencing in molecular precision diagnostics within healthcare. This role is suited for someone with experience developing bioinformatics pipelines for large-scale sequencing data and who wants to work in a dynamic environment close to both laboratory and clinical practice.

You will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team, working closely with physicians, molecular biologists, bioinformaticians, and software developers, both within Clinical Genomics and in collaboration with healthcare professionals at Karolinska University Hospital and research groups at Karolinska Institutet. By applying the latest technologies in large-scale DNA sequencing, you will help deliver accurate molecular diagnostics that make a real difference for patients.

About us

Clinical Genomics Stockholm is a national research infrastructure at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). Our mission is to enable the implementation of precision diagnostics and precision medicine in Sweden.

We collaborate with researchers and healthcare providers across the country to perform advanced genome and transcriptome analyses based on large-scale DNA sequencing, while also continuously developing methods and pipelines. Our goal is to ensure world-leading research and internationally competitive diagnostics in Sweden.

The division has around 50 employees with expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, software development, IT, and quality assurance. We operate a modern, highly automated laboratory with substantial sequencing capacity. Our bioinformatics pipelines and software are developed as open source

Your mission

As a bioinformatician, you will work with advanced genomic analyses and contribute to the development of precision medicine in Sweden.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Further developing bioinformatics pipelines for DNA and RNA sequencing data from large-scale platforms.
  • Validating pipelines and ensuring compliance with clinical and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborating closely with clinicians and researchers to understand needs and ensure clinical relevance.
  • Analyzing patient samples within external research projects and clinical implementation projects. 

Your profile

We are looking for a candidate with both technical expertise and an understanding of clinical relevance. 

Required:

  • Master’s degree, engineering degree, or equivalent in bioinformatics, computer science, or related field.
  • Experience in bioinformatics for large-scale DNA sequencing (NGS) using Illumina, ONT, or PacBio platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in Python Proficiency in Linux environments.
  • Experience with container technologies (e.g. Singularity, Docker).
  • Experience working in HPC environments, preferably with SLURM.
  • Knowledge of version control (Git).
  • Excellent English skills, both spoken and written.

Meriting experience:

  • PhD in bioinformatics, biotechnology, medicine, or related field.
  • Experience with automated testing, CI, and structured code development.
  • Skills in Nextflow or similar workflow management frameworks.
  • Experience working in quality-controlled environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of human genomics.
