Do you want to contribute to top-quality medical research?

Do you want to work with and further develop the national quality registry, the Swedish Childhood Cancer Registry (SBCR)? Would you like to contribute to strengthening registry-based research in pediatric cancer in Sweden at Karolinska Institutet?
Welcome to a leading research environment in pediatric oncology at the Division of Pediatric Oncology and Surgery, Department of Women’s and Children’s Health.
The department comprises six divisions with a distinct profile that overlaps with clinical operations at Karolinska University Hospital. Our division conducts broad research spanning from preclinical research groups, clinical studies including drug trials and care science, to a dedicated registry unit.

Subject Description

The division includes several research groups and a registry unit focused on registration and clinical epidemiology in the field of pediatric cancer.

The registry group manages SBCR together with RCC Väst as part of its status as a national quality registry, and also oversees several other research databases.
The goal is for SBCR to be of the highest quality, and to be used for both healthcare development and research to an even greater extent than today. SBCR is a national resource and should be used to improve diagnostics, treatment, and care for children in Sweden affected by cancer.

We are now seeking a Research Specialist to serve as the responsible registry holder for this work. The applicant should be either a pediatric oncologist or pediatrician with another specialty, with a strong interest in registry work and pediatric oncology

Your Role

As the responsible registry holder for the national quality registry (SBCR), you will report directly to the Head of Division.
You will also have a contractual assignment from the CPUA authority for SBCR. You will have overall responsibility for data security, development, content, and quality of the quality registry, and will work closely with the registry’s coordinator/monitor.
This is a part-time position (20%), and can be combined with the role as head of the registry group (see ad 2-3407/2025).

As registry holder, your responsibilities will include:

Leading the development of the registry in close collaboration with clinical operations. Ensuring the registry maintains high data quality. Supporting strategic and effective use of SBCR to improve pediatric cancer care. Providing support and guidance to registry users in clinical work, research, and education. Ensuring that pediatric oncology units in Sweden receive the support needed for clinical follow-up and quality development. Through the CPUA-assigned role, ensuring that SBCR is accessible for research projects needing registry data, and providing necessary support for data extraction and further development of database structures to enable new research initiatives.

Eligibility Requirements

To be appointed as a Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility criteria outlined in the Riktlinjer för andra anställningar än läraranställningar vid Karolinska Institutet apply in relation to the established recruitment profile.

Eligible candidates must hold a doctoral degree (or equivalent foreign degree) and have demonstrated scientific skill, including documented research work post-dissertation.

Assessment Criteria

The applicant should be either a pediatric oncologist or pediatrician with another specialty, with a strong interest in registry work and pediatric oncology.
Holding a PhD in a relevant field is highly meritorious.
Experience with registry work, including handling of personal data, and leading development projects, is considered an asset.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

A genuine interest in working with and developing SBCR. Strong collaborative and communication skills, as you will interact with both registry users and those responsible for the technical platform. A proactive, service-oriented, and initiative-driven personality, along with excellent organizational abilities. The ability to understand the big picture in various situations. Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Swedish and English.

Personal suitability will be given significant weight in the assessment.

Karolinska Institutet will make a comprehensive assessment of the candidates' qualifications and skills to determine who is best suited to contribute to the positive development of the organization.
