Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The mission at the Unit of Systems Toxicology is to understand how different environmental factors affect human wellbeing, focusing on the impact of chemicals and microbes on epithelial barrier function, immunity, and development. We integrate experimental and bioinformatics models and methods, including cells, tissues, zebrafish, and different omics analyses. We are now recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher who will work with Associate Professor Emma as part of projects funded by the Swedish Research Council FORMAS and EU-HORIZON.

Your mission

The project is centered on identifying the impact of chemical exposure on metabolic homeostasis, with a focus on cell metabolism, and its consequences for inflammatory signaling, stem cell differentiation, and tissue repair. This will be performed using a range of zebrafish models and methods, spanning from embryonic life stages up to adulthood. The project entails assessing and integrating phenotypic and functional effects with molecular profiles from scRNAseq and ATACseq.

The expected start date is no later than January 2026, and the position is for two years, with the possibility of extension.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent individual with a passion for science. Requirements for the position include a doctoral degree in areas relevant to the project, such as tissue damage signaling and repair, immunity, metabolism, and stem cell biology. Hands-on experience working with bioinformatics analysis, especially RNAseq, is required, while experience in ATACseq and scRNAseq is considered advantageous. In addition, hands-on experience in working with zebrafish as an experimental model, including embryonic, juvenile, and adult life stages, microscopy (brightfield/fluorescence and confocal), and FACS-based cell sorting, is considered highly advantageous.

The candidate must be able to work within a team of scientists from different disciplines and nationalities, and fluency in English, both written and oral, is a requirement. As the position also entails teaching and student supervision, documented experience in in teaching/supervision is considered advantageous.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled no later than the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
