The Department of Neuroscience consists of 35 research groups studying the function of the nervous system in health and disease. The laboratory of Dr. Gilberto Fisone is interested in the characterization of mouse models of neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases. 

Description of the subject area

We are currently seeking to recruit a research specialist with advanced expertise in imaging techniques, including light-sheet, confocal, and two-photon microscopy. Expertise in whole-brain clearing methods such as iDisco would be a plus.

Your mission

The successful candidate is expected to collaborate and support multiple research projects that require the application of the above-mentioned methodologies. The primary animal model in the planned work is the mouse.

Eligibility requirements

For employment as Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements stated in the Guidelines for non-teaching positions at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented postdoctoral research experience.

Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Experience in high resolution confocal imaging, including knowledge of the Zeiss Airyscan
  • Experience in light-sheet microscopy, and whole brain clearing methods of mouse brain tissue
  • Strong collaborative skills

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Knowledge in basic biochemical techniques, such as western blotting and immunofluorescence.
  • Experience in co-supervising students at the Master level.
  • Ability to present data in international meetings.
