The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master’s programs and the researchers are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The department has 12 research groups, about 115 PhD students and about 140 employees.

Our work spans across various disciplines and regions, and our research focuses on some of the most pressing public health challenges, including sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and health promotion and prevention, particularly as they relate to reducing the burden of NCDs, and adolescent health.

We are currently looking for a dedicated and highly organized Research Assistant to support the development of several major international and national grant proposals in global public health. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with an experienced and diverse team of researchers and contribute to large-scale, collaborative research initiatives.

Your mission

You will support the preparation and coordination of competitive research proposals in SRHR, NCDs, health promotion and prevention and adolescent health. This includes scientific writing, coordinating international partners, compiling and synthesizing relevant background material, and assisting with project planning. You will work closely with senior researchers and project teams and also contribute to the overall strategic development of research activities within the group.

The employment for one-year full-time position. Expected start date: as soon as possible.

Your profile

You must have:

  • A Master’s degree (or higher) in public health, global health, or a related field
  • Experience in SRHR, NCDs and health promotion and prevention, working with adolescent health in these areas is a merit
  • Excellent skills in English (written and spoken), Swedish language skills is a merit
  • Basic understanding of research project management (timelines, milestones)
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific writing, ideally related to grant applications or peer-reviewed publications

We are seeking a candidate who can conduct background literature reviews on large volumes of information and synthesize findings and clearly can articulate research objectives, significance and methodology. Additionally, we are looking for someone who can navigate/identify new funding opportunities that align with the group’s research topics and can draft simple budgets or coordinate with finance staff.

Familiarity with funding agency guidelines (e.g., EU, national bodies, private foundations), experience with project coordination or research administration and familiarity with the Swedish research context and/or Karolinska Institutet is meritorious.
