Liver disease is an expanding and attractive field with many unanswered questions and the potential for long-term scientific careers. The Hagström research group at Karolinska Institutet has a long history and focus on clinical and epidemiological studies in the field of liver diseases, especially within metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) which currently have a global prevalence of 38%. Now, we are searching for a dedicated postdoc with experience in biostatistical prediction modelling to lead an exciting project in how to better identify patients at risk for liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.

The goal of this postdoc position is to contribute to better identification of patients at risk of liver disease, leading to early detection and treatment and thereby saving lives.

Your mission

Your main role will be to further develop a novel risk prediction tool developed by our group and validate this in several international collaborations. The role may involve travelling to other countries when needed. Another task will be to use unique imaging data to predict incident liver disease. 

You will have the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary as well as an international setting. At our department, you will have vast opportunities to engage and participate in various research forums, outside as well as inside the department. There will also be an opportunity to engage in teaching for the interested candidate. We are located at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, which is an inclusive workplace, encouraging collaborative departmental and interdisciplinary research. This is a position of two years with possibility of extension.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

 

You have a PhD in fields such as clinical medicine, epidemiology or biostatistics, alternatively a strong profile in such fields. We will also consider other candidates with a suitable profile. Previous experience of Swedish healthcare and Swedish register data is a merit, and experience in biostatistical prediction modelling is a requirement for this position. Further, we anticipate that you are fluent in written and spoken English, have a strong track record in writing and publishing scientific papers in high-tier journals, are a social and interactive person with a natural talent in collaborating with persons outside of your field.

We value a drive to independently design and conduct studies. You are familiar in using statistical software such as R, SAS, or STATA. Personal qualities that are considered desirable:
