Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Join the Kragesteen lab at MBB Department in Biomedicum to illuminate the molecular mechanisms governing oxygen homeostasis. In our group, we use hypoxia models including mice, human tissues, and organoids and apply single cell/spatial multiomics, with the aim to decipher the regulation of transcriptional hypoxia cell states in development, evolution, and disease.

Your mission

The successful candidate(s) will work as a research assistant in a project aiming to decipher gene regulation of hypoxia transcriptional cell states using available datasets and lab generated single cell and spatial transcriptomic data from mice and humans (fetal and adult). The research assistant will be an active member of the research group and work closely with the members of the lab performing mouse hypoxia studies and spatial transcriptomics.

Your profile

We are recruiting 1-2 enthusiastic and curious research assistants. The ideal candidate should recently have obtained a MSc degree in Biotechnology, Molecular biology, Bioinformatics or a related field. We are looking for candidates with computational/bioinformatics backgrounds and be familiar with and be able to demonstrate experience with the analysis of single cell and/or spatial genomics datasets in R or Python programming. The candidate do either purely computational work or in combination with wet lab work.

All candidates must be able to fluently communicate in written and spoken English as well as demonstrate good teamwork skills. The applicant must be able to integrate well into the international and multidisciplinary environment. Personal suitability is therefore of great importance.

What do we offer?

A creative, supportive, and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests both within the Medical systems bioengineering unit, MBB, and Biomedicum. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities and together with the neighbouring SciLifeLab forms a national hub for molecular biosciences and a one-stop resource of unique technologies and cutting-edge facilities. You get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. A close relationship with the health care providers across the street in Bioclinicum is important for creating ground-breaking top-quality education and research. Karolinska Institutet is also a state university, which entitles you to several benefits through our collective agreement. And you get to practice freely in our modern wellness facilities, where trained staff are on site.

Location: Karolinska Institutet, Biomedicum, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, Solna
