Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

You will be working at Karolinska Institutet, a world-class research-oriented medical university where you will closely work with a multidisciplinary team mostly from the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology and from external collaborators. The team is consisting of medical professionals, including radiologists and epidemiologists, and technical experts such as image analysis algorithm developers, hospital physicists and biomedical engineering scientists. You will have the opportunity to work on clinically important questions by integrating the knowledge and the expertises from the multidisciplinary team that aims at improving human health.

Your mission

The position primarily involves developing image analysis algorithms to predict future hip fracture risk using opportunistically acquired CT images. There will also be opportunities to engage with other clinically significant research questions. A central focus will be on designing computational methods for medical image analysis, which may not necessarily rely entirely on statistical learning techniques, depending on the nature of the problem and the available clinical data. Research findings are expected to lead to publications in method-oriented or radiology-focused journals. Writing clear and maintainable code documentation will be an important part of the work, supporting long-term research continuity. In addition, the role includes contributing to the teaching of PhD and medical students.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

We are looking for a candidate who has obtained a doctoral degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects, with a focus on developments of computational methods for image analysis.

You also have:

  • Machine learning model development experiences in Python
  • First-author publications in peer reviewed scientific journals or conferences
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

Additional qualifications that are considered meritorious:

  • Previous work on medical image-based machine learning projects with relevant publications
  • Prior experience in medical image-based finite element modeling
