Would you like to combine cutting-edge research with meaningful clinical work in primary care? At our institution, you will have the opportunity to contribute to and further develop the research environment at the Division of Family Medicine at Karolinska Institutet, while also working in primary care within the Stockholm County Health Care Services (SLSO) as a specialist in Family Medicine. We offer a dynamic academic environment with strong resources, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a clear focus on clinical relevance. Here, you will become part of a setting where research, education, and patient-centered care go hand in hand to improve the future of primary care.
Family Medicine is a relatively recently established academic discipline at Karolinska Institutet. Within the Swedish healthcare system, the term has long referred to the clinical specialty required for physicians working in primary care. The field encompasses the broad range of competencies needed to meet patients concerns in primary care settings.
At the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS), world-leading research is conducted in areas such as aging, dementia, epidemiology, and care sciences. The Division of Family Medicine and Primary Care is one of seven divisions within the department. Education at undergraduate and advanced levels is primarily provided within the medical program, where the division is responsible for course components corresponding to approximately 15 weeks, clinical placements, and the final examination of the entire program. Within the division, nearly 100 research projects are currently active. The doctoral education includes around 40 PhD students, and we continuously run a clinical research school in family medicine and primary care, as well as several freestanding courses and commissioned education programs.
We are seeking a physician, a specialist in family medicine with extensive experience in teaching and curriculum development at the university level, who also conducts high-quality research and holds international recognition in the field. You should demonstrate strong commitment and interest in advancing both education and research in family medicine, along with the ability to coordinate and lead activities in both domains.
The main duties include teaching related to family medicine, supervision of doctoral students, and conducting high quality research. Supervision will primarily take place within clinically oriented doctoral education, and research should be conducted within areas relevant to family medicine and aligned with the division's existing research focus. Duties will be designed and adapted based on the candidate’s qualifications and interests, in alignment with organizational needs, and may evolve over time.
The position will be combined with employment as physician, specialist in family medicine at a university-affiliated primary care center within Stockholm County Health Care Services (SLSO).
