The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions within which both research and teaching are conducted. The department is involved in advanced research in both basic and applied research. All departments operate in close contact with clinics at Karolinska University Hospital. The department's educational activities contribute to most programmes and courses within KI's total range of education.
At the Division of Clinical Immunology, we study the functions of the immune system in a number of different areas, including the development of the blood system, infection, immunodeficiency, cancer and the nervous system. The research is translational in nature and includes everything from basic research, to experimental models in mice and zebrafish, patient samples to clinically oriented research where, for example, registers are used to answer the scientific question. The division thus constitutes a dynamic environment where experimental research meets clinical issues.
In the role of assistant professor, the focus is on developing his own research line. In addition, teaching in various parts of basic and clinical immunology is included. You are also expected to supervise students and present your results at internal and external meetings in Sweden and abroad. Furthermore, you are expected to apply for and receive your own research funding from various funders within and outside Sweden with the goal of building your own research group.
The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 5 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than seven years, normally, prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.
Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist.

We are looking for you who are a researcher with a focus on the nervous system in relation to the immune system. You master basic methodology in cell and molecular biology. You should have experience with inflammatory and neurodegenerative experimental models in mice. You should also have experience in the development of methods for analysis of large-scale methods for transcriptional and epigenetic profiling in spatial and single-cell applications. You should also have experience with large-scale and parallel genetic screening systems (e.g. MPRA, CRISPRi/a). It is also an advantage if you speak and write in Swedish.

An Assistant Professor employed in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 Section 12a shall be promoted to Senior Lecturer if he or she is eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer in accordance with the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet and is assessed to be suitable for such employment in accordance with the assessment criteria that KI has decided should be applied when being promoted to Senior Lecturer. The assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet that was valid at the time of appointment as Assistant Professor will be applied when applying for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
