Research assistant in systems immunometabolism

The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.

The division

The Division of Clinical Chemistry is carrying out research to elucidate the molecular basis of cardiometabolic disease integrating basic science, clinical medicine, and translational approaches.

Your mission

We are seeking 1-2 highly motivated Research Assistants with a strong background in biomedical sciences and bioinformatics, particularly in gene regulation, multi-omics integration (e.g. transcriptomics and metabolomics), and deep learning. The successful candidates will contribute to the analysis of various omics datasets from both human samples and mouse models, refine and develop computational pipelines, and carry out complementary wet-lab experiments to investigate disease-driving mechanisms.

Your profile

To be eligible for this position, the applicants are expected to have a solid understanding of how obesity affects human health and be familiar with the clinical features and therapeutic strategies associated with obesity-related diseases. The candidates must hold, or be close to completing, a master’s degree in biomedical science or a closely related field.

An interdisciplinary background spanning biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and bioinformatics is highly desirable. Advantage will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in computational biology and deep learning, or in metabolomics data preprocessing and analysis. Experience with human biopsy handling, sample preparation, flow cytometry, cell culture, and omics data generation is advantageous but not mandatory.

The ideal candidates will demonstrate a high level of independence, a collaborative mindset, and a strong interest in interdisciplinary research. Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication in English, and a proactive, solution-oriented approach are essential.
