Description of the subject area

We are looking for a committed, early career research leader working in the field of regenerative biology with a focus on the cardiovascular system, cell-cell junctions and mechanics.

Your mission

You will lead a research team towards novel discoveries within the subject area, and disseminate these findings at the international arena in the form of scientific publications and presentations at national and international research conferences and seminars. You will be a group leader with responsibility in various areas, including research development, recruitment, management of personnel within the team, and work environment. You will also teach and supervise graduate and undergraduate students, contribute to administrative duties within the department, and collaborate locally, nationally, and internationally. You must also continuously acquire funding through external grants and are expected to pursue research at a level that ensures future adequate funding.

Eligibility requirements

For employment as Principal Researcher at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements stated in the Guidelines for non-teaching positions at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.

To be eligible for employment as a Principal Researcher, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research skills. The applicant must also be a research leader and have established their own line of research. The applicant should furthermore have shown documented, high-quality scientific production, particularly in the last six years and have the potential to resolutely drive their research forward as well as be recognised nationally and internationally. The applicant should also have obtained robust, long-term and preferably external funding and have the potential to obtain further external funding.  The applicant should have shown teaching and supervision experience and demonstrated good leadership qualities.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Shown ability to conduct internationally recognized high quality research as principal investigator.
  • Successfully applied for competitive external, both national and international, funding.
  • Experience from international research institutes/universities.

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • An extended international and national collaboration network.
  • A record of invitations to speak at national and international conferences in the field.
  • Experience from organization committees of national and international conferences and seminar series

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
