Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for one highly motivated and talented research assistant to support research projects in the lab of Assistant Professor Petter S. Woll. The position and corresponding research projects are focused on studies of malignant hematopoiesis and leukemic stem cell biology. The Woll lab is part of the Centre for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM), a leading research unit in translational studies in hematology and immunology. At HERM, we offer an engaging research environment where you may contribute to high quality research. In the Woll lab we take advantage of recurrent somatic mutations to uncover cellular and molecular mechanisms promoting the establishment, propagation and therapy resistance of leukemic stem cells (Woll et al., Cancer Cell, 2014; Chin et al., Blood, 2022). Our goal is to identify new therapeutic strategies for treatment of leukemia including exploiting the immune system for targeted therapies (Ali et al., Nature Biotechnology, 2022; Giannakopoulou et al., Nature Cancer, 2023).

Your mission

We are looking for a research assistant who under Assistant Professor Woll’s supervision will be working on studies focused on the interaction between the immune system and leukemic stem cells in the presence of clinical treatment. A full-time position is available for 12 months. A successful applicant will have the opportunity to strengthen experimental skills and apply cutting-edge technology. The primary task is to complement studies in mouse models with analysis of patient material. Key technologies applied towards these research questions include high-throughput DNA and RNA sequencing including single cell analysis, genetic fate-mapping using next-generation-sequencing technology, flow cytometry, mouse models and various in vitro and in vivo stem cell assays.

Your profile

Requirements:

  • Ongoing or completed M.S. degree or higher in biology
  • Completed course in compliance with the Swedish Board of Agriculture’s regulations on handling and experimental use of laboratory animals.
  • Extensive experience in isolation and culture of primary human hematopoietic stem cells.
  • Ability to perform and analyze flow cytometry.
  • Strong language skills, including ability to speak and write English fluently.

Meritorious:

  • Experience with viral transduction and genetic modification of primary human hematopoietic stem cells.
  • Experience with molecular cloning and modifications of plasmids.
  • Experience in documentation and storage of research data.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to plan experimental bench-work.
