The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and comprises advanced basic scientific, clinical, and epidemiological research. In addition, it is one of the main educational departments at Karolinska Institutet. A postdoctoral position is now available at the Division of Clinical Physiology.
One of the division's main research topics is the importance of skeletal muscle and the cardiovascular system for physical working capacity in health and disease. We focus on situations where working capacity and muscle function have been shown to be important for function, disease progression or side effects of treatment, e.g. ageing, heart failure and cancer. In addition, we strongly believe that a better understanding of how ageing and age-related diseases affect skeletal muscle mass and function will provide new opportunities for interventions. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art human exercise facilities and pre-clinical labs in a creative and translational environment at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Karolinska Institutet. The supervisor team combines expertise in cardiovascular and skeletal muscle physiology, and with medical expertise in clinical physiology.
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to lead a study investigating muscle alterations in patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the coordination and execution of the study, including both practical and analytical tasks.
Key responsibilities include:
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
We are looking for a candidate with experience in data analysis from clinical trials.
Qualifications:
Previous experience with human physiological assessments and experience in cardiovascular and skeletal muscle physiology and testing are optional and meriting. A keen interest in science and the ability to interact effectively and work productively in a team as well as a good ability to communicate in English is required. Emphasis will be placed on personal skills, knowledge, and abilities, as well as on documented previous work.
