Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 70 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.

Your mission

We are looking for a research assistant to contribute to a project on statistical methods for the aging field, with a particular focus on multistate models for panel data. The overall aim of the project is developing novel statistical methods and software to facilitate the use of multistate models in aging field using data coming from population-based studies.

We are looking for a highly motivated research assistant who will be working under the main supervision of postdoctoral researcher Caterina Gregorio within associate professor Davide Liborio Vetrano’s group. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to methodological and software development. Tasks will include design of simulation studies for aging research, implementation and debugging of R packages, and development of R package documentation.

This is a full-time, temporary position with a duration of 6 months.

Your profile

The successful candidate is expected

(1) to hold a Master’s degree in mathematics or statistics by the time of employment;

(2) to have previous experience in performing simulation studies designed for the epidemiological and aging research field;

(3) to have excellent programming skills in R;

(4) to have experience with multistate modelling and longitudinal analyses;

(5) to have excellent English language skills.

This position also requires good collaboration skills, that you are structured, organized and can work independently.
