Karolinska Institutet, Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery

The Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery (MMK) carries out both preclinical and clinical research within numerous fields. Linked to the department are approximately 450 researchers, postgraduate students, teachers and technical & administrative staff and we currently have about 150 PhD students. The department is conducting undergraduate courses for medical students, physiotherapist students, biomedicine students and biomedical laboratory students.

Subject area
Professor. The position will be combined with employment as a specialist doctor in clinical genetics, Karolinska University Hospital, Solna (70/30).

Duties
We are seeking a person who can develop clinical and basic research in the field, as well as maintain and develop active research collaborations on both a national and international level. The position is intended to be combined with employment as a specialist doctor in clinical genetics at the Karolinska University Hospital in Solna.

The successful candidate will, in addition to conducting their own research, also contribute to the development of postgraduate education within the institution, its educational content and quality assurance, and will also be responsible for the field of clinical genetics in the department's educational programmes at undergraduate level.

Entry requirements
All professors at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical competence. The eligibility requirements for appointment as a professor at KI are specified in the "Appointment procedure for teachers at Karolinska Institutet"

To qualify for employment as a professor, applicants must demonstrate research expertise as well as educational expertise.

Particular merit is given to excellence in clinical genetics research involving multiple medical specialties as well as leadership experience. Previous experience in research and postgraduate education based on multi-centre studies is an advantage. Must be able to demonstrate increasing scientific production in the past ten year period, have the potential to attract major research grants and develop international research collaborations. Since the employment is combined with a clinical position, applicants must also be specialist doctors in clinical genetics.

The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (2), clinical expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).
