Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Our laboratory is located on the Huddinge campus of the Karolinska Institute. The overall aim of our research group is to develop Neutrophil-based cellular immunotherapies against cancer. Being part of the Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM), we offer a collaborative environment for translational biomedical research.

Your mission

The use of chimeric antigen receptors (CAR) in T cells has transformed the field of cell therapies for some cancers but have not proven efficacious against most solid tumors. We hypothesize that myeloid cells hold the key to unlocking the full potential of anti-tumor immunity. The outlined project initially aims to design different CAR constructs that are specifically adapted to myeloid cells and transduce them into cell lines, which can be differentiated into mature neutrophils. These studies will be performed in human primary cells or cell lines, and potentially humanized mouse models, with goals to develop translational tools for clinical applications. The position is for six months but can be extended by an additional six months pending the completion of the project.

Your profile

The candidate should have a strong interest in immunology, molecular biology and genome engineering and have a master’s degree or equivalent by the time the positions starts.  Experience with cell culture and basic molecular biology tools, such as PCR and cloning, is a requirement. Experiences working with primary immune cell cultures from mouse or human cells are meritorious, including analysis by flow cytometry. Additionally, it is meritorious if the candidate has experience working with Neutrophils. It is expected that the candidate contributes to a collaborative environment in the lab and can meet deadlines and work independently. Fluency in English, written and spoken, is a requirement.
