This position is a unique opportunity to conduct research in the research group Global Sexual Health, Department of Global Public Health and the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health (CESH). The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master’s programs and the researchers are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The department has 12 research groups, about 115 PhD students and about 140 employees.

Your mission

The work will mostly be based at the Department of Global Public Health at Karolinska Institutet in Solna. The applicant is expected to independently conduct own research but also to assist in existing research projects in public health in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights both in Sweden and in Sub-Saharan Africa. Responsibilities include writing of grant applications, project coordination, project reporting, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, scientific writing and frequent communication in speech and writing with both national and international partners, including leading the so-called Global Conversations for the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health (CESH). Supervision of students at Master and PhD level will also be expected, as well as teaching in global health and sexual and reproductive health. The post-doc will also be an important part of the research group and is expected to actively participate in the work and development of the group.  

This is a fixed-term position for three years.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Mandatory requirements:

  • A PhD degree in public health, global health or corresponding academic qualifications.
  • English and Swedish language skills, fluent in speaking and writing.
  • Skills in quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Experience of research in global health and SRHR.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience of work in low-income countries, with quality improvement.
  • Experience in writing publications, grant applications and/or project coordination preferably at international level.
