- with focus on research

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Do you want to work with and further develop pediatric care science research at Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital? Would you like to contribute to strengthening care science within pediatric oncology and pediatric surgery? Welcome to a leading research environment in pediatric care research at the Division of Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric Surgery, Department of Women’s and Children’s Health. The division brings together about ten research groups working on childhood cancer, ranging from preclinical to clinical research, as well as several research groups within pediatric surgery. Our division has a long-standing and strong tradition of pediatric care research in several areas, such as clinical ethics, intercultural care, transition, procedural support, and person-centered care. Our research groups are located at Bioclinicum and Biomedicum, as well as in the Widerström building on the KI campus.

Description of the subject area

We aim to strengthen pediatric care science research that currently focuses on various aspects of childhood cancer care and children with complex surgical conditions. Studies are conducted using both quantitative and qualitative approaches, including validated instruments and observational/interview studies, to examine the perceptions and experiences of children, parents, and healthcare staff regarding the care provided. Pediatric care science is a dynamic and constantly evolving field, as new treatment methods are continuously introduced to improve care for children—an aspect that also needs to be highlighted within care science research.

By combining this position with a nursing role at Karolinska University Hospital, a future lecturer in pediatric care research will also be able to work on building new collaborations with various subspecialists throughout the children’s hospital, as well as with researchers across multiple departments within the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health.

Your mission

You will lead your own research group with a clear profile and development potential in care science, in collaboration with existing researchers in our division. You are expected to participate in the further development of the clinical research infrastructure both nationally and internationally within this field. Similarly, you are expected to supervise doctoral students and contribute to the division’s internal work to ensure a high-quality doctoral education.

The duties also include clinical service as a nurse at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital at Karolinska University Hospital, as the position is intended to be divided 50 percent at Karolinska Institutet as a lecturer and 50 percent at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital at Karolinska University Hospital.
