Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Karolinska Institutet consists of seven departments that conduct both research and education. With its strategic role linking basic science, clinical research and healthcare, the department offers a dynamic environment for translational research in areas such as clinical microbiology and immunology.

The Division of Clinical Microbiology is characterized by multidisciplinary research in infectious diseases that contributes translational knowledge to the development of new diagnostics and treatment methods.

The Systems Biology Laboratory is currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher. The group combines systems biology with experimental research to investigate host-pathogen interactions and their role in inflammatory diseases. The primary focus is to reveal how viral infections and chronic inflammation drive immunometabolic reprogramming at the cellular level.

Your mission

We are looking for a motivated and skilled individual to contribute to our research on the role of granulocytes in disease pathology, with a particular interest in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases such as severe dengue or psoriasis. The overall goal is to generate insights that can guide the development of improved diagnostic tools and targeted therapeutic strategies.

A solid knowledge of flavivirus infection models in cell lines, primary cells, characterization of virus dynamics and development of animal models of viral infection is a requirement, You should have a solid background in granulocyte biology, including experience in neutrophil isolation from blood or bone marrow of mice, functional assays, immunophenotyping and co-culture experiments. Expertise in human immune response to viral infections is advantageous. The project involves optimization and application of advanced methods in single-cell biology, such as high-dimensional flow cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing, confocal microscopy, and isolation and analysis of extracellular vesicles. Experience of working with these techniques is an advantage.

In your role as a postdoctoral researcher, you will collaborate with other group members and with local and international partners. In these contexts, you are expected to actively contribute to a dynamic and collaborative research environment.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
