We are looking to hire two highly skilled bioinformaticians on post-doctoral level to strengthen our research team. Your role will be to lead projects aimed at deepening our mechanistic understanding of ascending aortic aneurysm and heart valve disease and unravel the potential genetic contribution behind it. The tasks include analyzing large-scale research data, such as RNA-seq, proteomics, genomics, and epigenetic data, and integrate with clinical variables from patients. You will work closely in a team with molecular biologists, laboratory technicians, clinicians, PhD students, bioinformaticians, and other postdocs.
You are expected to actively contribute to the planning and design of the research project, as well as participate in teaching. We expect you to work in a diligent and responsible way.
You should have a solid understanding of integrating and analyzing large-scale research data, with a demonstrated ability to interpret complex analyses and translate them into clinical findings. You should also have expertise in programming languages such as R and Python, and a documented experience of working with multiomics and cluster analysis. You should have a strong understanding of relevant statistical methods.
You should be a creative and goal-oriented team player with a strong scientific drive and proven scientific track record. We expect you to be able to work independently and take a leading role in driving the project forward. Previous experience working with human genetic data and a background in the cardiovascular field is particularly meriting. Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and translational research is also highly valued
Strong communication skills in English, spoken and written, are required. Personal suitability for the group will be a strong selection criterion.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of ten divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group H Björck (https://staff.ki.se/people/hanna-bjorck), Cardiology Unit. Our group conducts translational research on ascending aortic aneurysms and aortic valve disease at BioClinicum, Karolinska University Hospital, Solna. The projects include both experimental and clinical questions, utilizing a unique and well-characterized patient cohort and biobank. The cohort has been built in close collaboration with the Thoracic Surgery Unit at Karolinska University Hospital. We integrate cell and molecular biology with multiomics, genetics and epidemiology to unravel disease pathogenesis. We have several national as well as international collaborators.
