The Department of Clinical Research and Education, Södersjukhuset (KI SÖS) conducts internationally recognized research focusing on common diseases, as well as education from undergraduate to doctoral levels. The goal of all activities is to improve people's health. One of our largest research areas is cardiology, with an emphasis on clinical and epidemiological research closely related to the clinical care at the Cardiology Unit (VO) at Södersjukhuset.

Description of the subject area
Professor in cardiology combined with employment as at least specialist physician at Södersjukhuset. KI has for many years had an internationally recognized and well-established strong research profile in cardiology, i.e., studies of heart functions and diseases. At KI SÖS, cardiological research is conducted at the highest level in several areas such as cardiac arrest and intensive care, ischemic heart disease, and arrhythmia. In recent years, our research in heart failure has developed enormously and now spans studies on lifestyle, risk factors, and disease mechanisms to treatment, follow-up, and quality of life for affected patients. Several major national and international studies are led by researchers at our institution.

Your mission

We are looking for a clinically proficient researcher with professor’s competence and a strong epidemiological and clinical research background in cardiology, preferably within the field of heart failure. The focus of the advertised position is to lead a large research group in heart failure and arrhythmia, and to conduct registry-based, epidemiological, and clinical research at the highest international level. The position includes teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher education levels, as well as supervising doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers. The position is combined with 30% clinical work as a specialist physician (or chief physician, assistant chief physician) at Södersjukhuset, Cardiology Unit (VO Kardiologi).

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on research the applicant must have demonstrated very good pedagogical skills; excellent scientific skills, and clinical skills.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

The employment will be combined with an employment as a specialist physician, assistant chief physician or chief physician in cardiology at Södersjukhuset, Department of Cardiology and therefore you must have a Swedish MD with specialist competence in cardiology as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.

Since the employment includes clinical work, you must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale, CERS).

Assessment criteria

The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (2), leadership and collaboration skills (2), and clinical skills (1).

For this position, research and educational experience within the heart failure field will be specifically assessed.
