Postdoc in human-artificial intelligence (AI) interaction with focus on collective innovation, cultural evolution and social learning

The Mechanisms of Social Behavior lab at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden is seeking a highly qualified postdoctoral researchers to join our team. With Björn Lindström as teamleader and funded by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation, we are studying how human-AI collaboration can improve human collective innovation. Our interdisciplinary, multi-methods approach combines behavioral experiments, computational (RL/cognitive) modelling and multi-agent simulations.

Your mission

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will lead a project aimed at improving human collective innovation through collaboration with AI agents. 

In this role, you will:

• Work at the forefront of research in human-AI collaboration
• Have the opportunity to develop your own research ideas within the lab’s focus areas
• Build and refine computational models of human innovation and learning processes
• Design and test AI algorithms that interact with human participants to enhance collective innovation
• Analyze experimental and modeling results to derive insights into human and AI-driven collective innovation
• (Depending on your interest) Develop and run interactive collective innovation experiments to study human exploration and social learning strategies

You will join a successful and well-funded research group at the Karolinska Institute, collaborating with senior and junior researchers in a supportive and stimulating environment. The project involves close collaboration with the research group of Anil Yaman (VU Amsterdam). Research visits to Amsterdam may be possible.

Your profile

We are seeking an ambitious, innovative, and enthusiastic researcher with:

•  A PhD in a relevant field (e.g., computer science/AI, cognitive science, or a related area)
• Strong programming skills (e.g., R, Python, Matlab, or C++)
• Proficiency in statistics/data analysis

You must also have good knowledge in at least one of the following areas:

• Knowledge representation and reasoning
• Reinforcement learning
• Human-AI collaboration
• Large language models

Strong academic credentials, including publications in high-quality international journals, are required. Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is a requirement, fluency in Swedish is not required. Personal characteristics and suitability will be considered when filling the position. We encourage talented, computationally minded researchers with a passion for human-AI collaboration to apply.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
