Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Join Per Svenningsson’s Research Lab, part of the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet, located in the state-of-the-art Bioclinicum research facility. Our lab is a leader in Parkinson’s disease (PD) research, focusing on translational neuropharmacology. We employ a multidisciplinary approach combining biochemical, histological, pharmacological, molecular biology, and behavioral techniques to uncover the mechanisms underlying PD and develop novel therapeutic strategies.

Your mission

As a research assistant, you will work closely with a dynamic team of researchers, PhD students, and postdocs to establish and study advanced neuronal models of PD. Explore genetic predisposition to Parkinson’s disease, disease-modifying mutations, investigate organelle dynamics, and engage in pre-clinical mechanistic studies—all with the aim of developing disease-modifying treatments and understanding diverse neurobiological aspects of PD. Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Developing and characterizing iPSC-derived neuronal models of genetic Parkinson’s disease.
  • Conducting molecular biology techniques such as cloning, Western blotting, and DNA/RNA extraction.
  • Performing advanced imaging and analyzing cellular signaling pathways.
  • Supporting routine laboratory tasks and ensuring the smooth operation of the lab.
  • Collaborating with team members on preclinical studies to investigate organelle dynamics, genetic predispositions, and disease-modifying mutations.
  • Learning and applying new methodologies to advance the group’s research objectives.

Your profile

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant to contribute to our innovative research on Parkinson’s disease. For this position, it is required that the candidate has:

  • A one-year master’s Degree in neuroscience, biology or a related field
  • Prior experience in cell culture techniques and familiarity with Parkinson’s disease-related cell biology

Fluency in English is required, knowledge of other languages is advantageous
