Signal Transduction Group, Rolf Luft Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, Karolinska Institutet. Our group is interested in signal-transduction in both native and stem cell-derived islet cells under physiological and diabetic conditions. We have a series of important research projects involving characterizing electrical signaling in islet cells and need a good hands-on electrophysiologist with general biomedical research experience. By working with us, the applicant will not only make research contributions but also have chances for his or her career growth and development.
The applicant will perform different types of electrophysiological experiments mainly in native human islets and human pluripotent stem cell-derived islets by using patch clamp techniques including single channel/whole cell current, membrane potential and cell capacitance recordings. In addition, he or she will do islet transplantation, advanced microscopy and in particular noninvasive in vivo microscopy, single cell RT-PCR, quantitative immunocytochemistry and other advanced assays.
The applicant should be enthusiastic and highly motivated. He or she should be well-trained in electrophysiology and competent in research on pancreatic islets, pluripotent stem cell-derived islets, pancreatic beta cells and rodent models of diabetes. We are looking for someone who has an undergraduate education with good knowledge on the structure and function of pancreatic islets, the functional and structural maturation of pluripotent stem cell-derived islets and diabetes as well as expert skills in patch clamp electrophysiology, transplantation surgery, confocal and multiphone microscopy, immunocytochemistry and gene expression analysis.
