We invite applications for a lab coordinator position to work in the HistoCore at Biomedicum and part time in the group of Camilla Svensson, professor in cellular and molecular pain physiology. The position will be based at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, which offers a collegial, international, and dynamic research environment. Biomedicum's HistoCore, led by Prof. Camilla Svensson, provides consultation, method development, and practical services to researchers at Karolinska Institutet and beyound. Your mission

We are seeking a motivated and skilled individual to support the Director of our state-of-the-art Histocore facility in managing and developing its operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in spatial biology and histopathology, a proven track record in core facility lab management, and the ability to tailor services to meet the needs of diverse research groups.

This is a dynamic role that combines core facility management and with the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research in the Svensson Lab, where you will implement new technologies and develop protocols to advance the lab's objectives.

Key Responsibilities in the Histocore Facility:
•    Assist the Director in the strategic development of the core facility.
•    Implement new methodologies and foster collaborations with other core facilities at Karolinska Institutet.
•    Provide consultations on processing various tissue types for spatial analysis of RNA and protein expression
•    Perform advanced custom requests 
•    Optimize protocols, troubleshoot technical challenges, and maintain laboratory organization.
•    Conduct training sessions and introductions for new users of the core facility's equipment.
•    Perform routine tasks, including: tissue preparation and embedding, sectioning of tissue, histological staining, immunofluorescence, brightfield, epifluorescent and confocal microscopy, digital image analysis and quantification.

Key Responsibilities in the Svensson Lab:
•    Collaborate with team members to develop new protocols, implement and develop new technologies and conduct experiments

Your profile

You are a highly skilled research histopathologist and R&D scientist with proficiency in a wide range of histological techniques using both manual and automated platforms. This includes FFPE and frozen tissue processing, multiplex staining with chromogenic and fluorescent detection and digital pathology. You have extensive expertise in spatial RNA and protein biology including in situ RNA detection methods (RNAScope, Visium, Xenium), multiplex immunohistochemsity using platforms such as Leica Bond or Ventana, and optical microscopy applications including tissue clearing, live staining, and expansion microscopy.


You have a proven ability to implement new technologies, develop innovative protocols, optimize workflows, and provide exceptional technical support to researchers. With a strong track record of collaborating with diverse, multidisciplinary teams, you excel at achieving significant research advancements and driving methodological innovation.


You have a proven track record from core facility work and in effectively managing projects, efficiently allocating resources, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality results. Your exceptional interpersonal skills enable you to collaborate seamlessly with researchers, foster strong partnerships, and provide outstanding technical support. You have an excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
