Description of the subject area

Toxicology is a subject area that investigates the mechanisms and toxic effects of chemical substances with the aim of identifying risks to humans and contributing to sustainable development. Toxicology uses for example in vitro methods, i.e. cell and molecular biological methods, to investigate mechanisms and toxic effects of chemical substances. In vitro methods contribute to 3R (replace, reduce, refine) and sustainable development in toxicology.
