Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institute in the broadly defined field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts advanced research in environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology and biostatistics with a focus on clarifying how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and what interaction with genes exists. IMM is also a national expert body in environmental medicine, and IMM's researchers act as scientific advisors to authorities and other decision-makers and participate in national and international expert groups.

At the Unit of Occupational Medicine, we aim to identify and prevent chemical, physical, ergonomic, and psychosocial health hazards in the work environment. Our mission is to improve health during and beyond working life for all. We offer you a multidisciplinary environment, ample opportunity to collaborate with experienced researchers, and freedom to develop your own ideas.

Your mission

Your postdoctoral project will focus on the long-term impact of occupational exposure to particles and chemicals on cognitive health later in life. This will be done using longitudinal cohort data from several sources, including national register-based data and brain imaging data from population-based cohort studies. The goal of the project is to estimate the risk of cognitive impairment and dementia in relation to exposure to particles and chemicals in the workplace, and to gain neuropathological insight into the relationship.

You will work in a multidisciplinary research team that has expertise in occupational, geriatric, and environmental epidemiology, psychology, and public health. Your postdoc’s time will be devoted to analysis, manuscript preparation, grant application and career development. You will also have opportunities to collaborate and contribute to other team projects. There are no teaching requirements, but opportunities to teach can be facilitated.

The position is full-time and temporary for a period of two years.
