The research will be conducted in the group of Professor Volker Lauschke. In the group, we use 3D cell culture systems of primary human cells, microfluidics and integrative bioinformatics approaches to develop better model systems for prediction of drug toxicity and to identify novel therapeutic strategies for complex metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes. In addition, we are interested in understanding the molecular basis of hepatic plasticity in liver injury and regeneration. Furthermore, we study the genetic basis of drug response and adverse drug reactions on a population-scale.
The successful applicant will design and fabricate biocompatible microfluidic devices and micro-electromechanical systems for the culture of organotypic human tissue models. Specific focus will be placed on the development of technical platform that allow for the scale-up of such microphysiological systems.
We are looking for a researcher with expertise in fabrication of polymer devices based on thiol-ene/thiol-ene-epoxy systems. More specifically, the candidate should have experience in micro/nano reaction injection molding and computer aided design (CAD) modeling in Solid Edge and L-Edit software, be familiar with electron beam-, nanoimprint- and photo-lithography procedures, AFM/SEM characterization and wet/dry etching. In addition, microfluidics FEM simulation and programming capabilities are considered as important merits.
