As a Research Specialist at the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention, and Technology, you will contribute to groundbreaking translational cancer research. You will work with an interdisciplinary team of biologists, data scientists and clinicians to advance out understanding of how cancer cells invade healthy organs.

Your mission

We are seeking a Research Specialist to work in Marco Gerling’s research group at the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention, and Technology, CLINTEC, Karolinska Huddinge.

You will be responsible for several interdisciplinary research projects, centering around the mechanisms of tumor cell invasion into healthy tissues. You will partly drive research projects independently, including practical work in the wet lab and with animal models, and you will supervise PhD and Master students working on defined projects. Your work includes the practical coordination of the Karolinska MCM network (microenvironmental control of metastases), and you will be part of the GUIDE.MRD project, an EU funded initiative that investigates the comparative performance of different tests for circulating tumor DNA in patients after tumor resection.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Assessment criteria

For this developing and complex role, we are looking for an experienced biologist or person with a similar basic science background with documented broad expertise in translational research. Particular weight is put on personal fit.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Several years of experience with research animal work, necessary formal qualifications to work with laboratory animals in Sweden
  • Experience with the analyses of complex clinical data
  • Experience in scientific work with gastrointestinal cancers, preferably pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer, documented, for example, by high-level publications as a first author
  • Basic skills in Swedish

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Advanced language skills in Swedish
  • An oncology molecular biology profile, documented in scientific publications, demonstrating a deep understanding of molecular pathways driving carcinogenesis 
  • Advanced knowledge in programming and data analysis with R, preferably documented by code in public repositories
  • Advanced knowledge in multiplex immunofluorescence and in situ hybridization techniques
  • Documented supervision of students on, for example, the Bachelor or Master level
