Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Description of the subject area

Molecular understanding of mechanisms governing tissue repair is key for developing new therapeutic strategies enhancing tissue regeneration. The advertised  position is focused on understanding mechanisms of epithelial regeneration in the mouse esophagus.

Your mission

The current project is centered around an established mouse model of esophageal epithelial regeneration. You will characterize both the cellular and transcriptional injury response, as well as identifying progenitor cell subpopulations contributing to, and molecular mechanisms required for, epithelial repair. You will use a combination of in vivo genetic labelling and tracing of progenitor cells to quantitatively understand tissue regeneration. Furthermore, single-cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics will be used to identify molecular mechanisms required for tissue repair.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

The candidate should have previous experience of clonal lineage tracing data, organoid cultures and transcriptional profiling. In addition, previous experience of analysing spatial transcriptomics data is required.

Assessment criteria

Candidates will be assessed based on their expertise and eligibility. In addition, the selected candidate should fit well into the current research group.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has documented experience from the field of epithelial stem cell biology, focusing on the esophageal epithelium. Furthermore, experience working with mouse models of regeneration and quantitative lineage tracing is considered important.

It is meritorious that the applicant shows an interest in developing skills to handle large sequencing data sets and can handle in vitro organoid culture systems.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
