Research Specialist in nucleotide metabolism and anticancer drug discovery

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

Description of the subject area

We offer a position to work on the discovery and development of new treatments for cancer. The work focuses on agents that modulate nucleotide metabolism. Such agents include small molecules as well as biologicals

Your mission

Performing cell culture and preclinical studies on the response of cancers and normal cells to a variety of agents that alter nucleotide metabolism.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

From a technical perspective, the candidate must have:

• Expertise in cancer cell biology (e.g. cell culture, flow cytometry, western blotting, immunofluorescence microscopy and expertise with lentivirus)
• Expertise in molecular biology (PCR, cloning, basics on protein purification)
• Expertise in biochemistry (enzymatic assays, ELISA, immunoprecipitation)
• Expertise in molecular docking and use of AutodockVina, GLIDE, NAMD, DESMOND etc.
• Understanding of ADME concepts as well as experimental skills and know-how on methods for prediction
• Valid animal handling license and experience with cancer models

From a literature perspective the candidate should have a deep understanding of:

• Cancer biology (tumor suppressors, oncogenes)
• Discovery of anticancer agents (small molecules and/or biologicals)

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

• A proven publication track record with main author papers after his/her PhD dissertation
