Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Our recent findings of autoimmune mechanisms in fibromyalgia (FM) are potentially ground-breaking as they open up for new immunomodulatory treatment strategies (PMID: 34196305, 36943275). Although, the titres of autoantibodies were associated with pain intensity, the key question how autoimmunity can lead to altered nociception in FM remains to be resolved. We are looking for a postdoc who wants to work in our projects regarding pathophysiological mechanisms in FM and other chronic pain conditions where inflammation plays an important role.

Your mission

As postdoctoral researcher we expect you to participate in the investigation of pain patients using a variety of methods such as questionnaires, quantitative sensory testing and preferably also taking blood samples and skin biopsis. In addition, we expect you to perform basic laboratory analysis of blood and skin samples, do statistical analysis and draft scientific papers. The research focuses mainly on the interaction between the nervous and the immune system in patients suffering from chronic musculoskeletal pain. You will work in close collaboration with preclinical and clinical researchers at Karolinska Institutet and also take part in our national and international collaborations.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment the candidate has to have a university degree within health sciences. Having a health care profession such as medical doctor or nurse is a merit. The applicant has to be fluent in English, speaking and writing, and has to be able to communicate with research subjects who only speak Swedish. Previous experience within chronic pain research, particularly quantitative sensory testing is a merit, as is previous experience with skin- or muscle biopsies. Of particular importance is knowledge within the fields of pain, inflammation, autoimmunity, lipidomics and/or metabolomics. The candidate should be highly motivated, reliable, meticulous and cooperative but with an ability to work independently.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
