At the Division of Insurance Medicine, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, we conduct research about different aspects of sickness absence, health, work and life situation. You will have the opportunity to work close to top researchers within the sickness absence field and contribute to high-quality research at the international level.
The research questions are complex and require a great deal of interdisciplinarity and people with different educational backgrounds are part of the project. We also have a wide collaboration with other researchers in Sweden and internationally.
We are looking for a Principal Researcher to lead multiple research projects focusing on mental health, musculoskeletal disorders, healthcare use, sick leave, impact evaluation and intersectional inequalities. One research project involves research on healthcare use, sickness absence and labor market outcomes due to co-existence of osteoarthritis and depression or anxiety. Another project focuses on the implications of mental illness for opioid use and opioid-related harms in persons with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases including healthcare use, sick leave, and mortality. The studies are built on register and survey data. Advanced statistical methods will be used to analyze the data.
You will lead and conduct research projects within the field of Health Economics, Insurance Medicine and Social Epidemiology, independently and as part of a team. Your responsibilities include: leading and conducting studies, including data management, analysis, and manuscript writing; teaching and supervising students and junior researchers; collaborating with national and international partners; applying for research funding; and managing projects and documentation.
You will work independently and take responsibility for writing and completing scientific manuscripts, secure funding for research projects, and supervise and collaborate with other researchers, statisticians, and research students. You will also contribute to the development of the research group through methodological development, supervision, and collaboration within the research group, Karolinska Institutet and internationally.
You have to possess extensive experience in survey- and register-based epidemiological research, of international collaboration and publishing research articles in internationally recognized scientific journals. Proficiency in both oral and written English in communication is a prerequisite.
Furthermore, the applicant must have knowledge of survey and register-based research, applied health econometrics, quantitative research methods, social epidemiology, demographic analysis, multimorbidity research, insurance medicine, and musculoskeletal and psychiatric epidemiology. The applicant also must demonstrate the ability to work independently, and as part of a team as well as good cooperation skills. Experience in leading research projects is also a requirement. We also attach great importance to personal suitability.
To be eligible for employment as a Principal Researcher, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise. The applicant must also be a Research Leader and have established their own line of research. The applicant should furthermore have shown documented, high-quality scientific production, particularly in the last six years and have the potential to energetically drive their research forward as well as be recognized nationally and internationally. The applicant should also have obtained good, long-term and preferably external funding and have the potential to obtain further external funding. The applicant should have shown teaching and supervision experience and demonstrated good leadership qualities.
