The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Research at the department is focused on how different societal and individual factors affect population health, and to develop and evaluate structural and individual-oriented interventions. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department has 12 research groups, about 110 PhD students and about 140 employees.

Description of the subject area

Ongoing societal changes may be negatively impacting children’s health and physical activity levels. There is an urgent need for research that can guide the development of strategies to mitigate these potential adverse effects.

Your mission

As a Principal Researcher, your responsibilities primarily include conducting research, leading projects, supervising staff, and mentoring doctoral students and postdocs, as well as some advanced-level teaching in public health science. You will contribute to the development of new methods for measuring and analyzing physical activity and fitness in large-scale population studies. In this role, you will also lead co-creation research projects in collaboration with interest-holders on how the built environment and physical activity guidelines can promote children's movement and health.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Principal Researcher, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise. The applicant must also be a Research Leader and have established their own line of research. The applicant should furthermore have shown documented, high-quality scientific production, particularly in the last six years and have the potential to energetically drive their research forward as well as be recognized nationally and internationally. The applicant should also have obtained good, long-term and preferably external funding and have the potential to obtain further external funding.  The applicant should have shown teaching and supervision experience and demonstrated good leadership qualities.

The requirements also include advanced scientific expertise in subject matter and methods related to measuring physical activity and evaluating its health effects from both individual and population perspectives. The applicant should have successfully conducted large co-creation research projects in collaboration with community interest-holders, such as municipalities and schools, with a focus on physical activity and children’s health. The applicant must also have strong communication skills, both spoken and written, in both Swedish and English.
