Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
At the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology (CLINTEC) and ME (Medical Unit) Nephrology at Karolinska University Hospital, there are unique opportunities to conduct world-leading clinical research. The Division of Renal medicine at CLINTEC is internationally renowned, combining fundamental research at the NEO laboratory at Campus South Flemingsberg with clinical studies and trials at our research clinic, which is an integrated part of ME (Medical Unit) Nephrology at Karolinska University Hospital. Through this professorship recruitment, we aim to further strengthen epidemiological and clinical research, with a particular focus on clinical trials.
Description of the subject area
The subject area encompasses research in medical kidney diseases, focusing on clinical epidemiology and interventional studies. Using advanced epidemiological methods and analysis of data from large population registers, quality registers, and clinical cohorts, patient-centered research is conducted on relevant research questions. In close collaboration with university healthcare, the research clinic is led with a focus on clinical studies, where both register-based and traditional randomized trials are carried out. Through biological analyses and long-term follow-up of patient cohorts, there are excellent opportunities to lead the development of precision medicine in nephrology.

As a research leader, you will be responsible for developing and leading a research group focused on both register-based research using large databases and patient-centered studies, including recruitment for clinical cohorts and trials. Additionally, you are expected to play an active role in the collaboration between healthcare and academia, contributing to the implementation of research findings to achieve quality improvements in patient care. You are expected to continuously attract competitive funding and actively contribute to creating a strong and dynamic research environment including mentoring students in doctoral and postdoctoral studies.
Beyond research, you will teach and supervise at both undergraduate and advanced levels in nephrology. As a professor, you will have a key role in strengthening collaboration between academia and industry, promoting ethical guidelines in research and clinical practice, and disseminating research findings to both professional stakeholders and the general public.
