Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Per Nilsson lab offers a dynamic and international research environment driven by curiosity. The lab performs preclinical research on Alzheimer’s disease with a focus on protein homeostasis and the intracellular cleaning system autophagy. We use state-of-the-art mouse models exhibiting Alzheimer pathologies to understand disease mechanisms and to test potential compounds in preclinical trials.

Your mission

This postdoc project aims at finding novel therapeutic strategies to treat amyloid and tau pathologies of Alzheimer’s disease. Newly designed compounds will be evaluated in mouse models recapitulating AD pathologies. The efficacy and mechanism of action of the drug candidates will be evaluated both in vitro by biochemical and immunohistochemical means and in vivo by PET and MR.

The position is a temporary employment for two years.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Particularly meritorious:

  • A broad expertise within neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s and the fields of intracellular protein degradation and autophagy.
  • Practical experience working in vivo with mouse models, including the administration of pharmacologically active compounds.
  • Excellent skills in basic biochemical and molecular biology techniques including fluorescence microscopy.
  • Good team player that takes initiatives and with good written and spoken English proficiency.

Meritorious:

  • A solid track record from the PhD and postdoctoral period, preferably in the field of in vivo preclinical Alzheimer research
  • Experience with small animal in vivo imaging.
  • Experience with presenting research at international scientific conferences.
