As a  Data base coordinator, you will play a crucial role in advancing the field of precision medicine by developing and supporting data services. Your work will involve research data support, metadata management, data curation, and user communication, all aimed at pushing the boundaries of medical research. At SciLifeLab, you will be at the forefront of developing innovative services that enable groundbreaking projects in precision medicine. You will collaborate with healthcare professionals and industry partners to create technical solutions that ensure high levels of security, data integrity, and interoperability. The datasets you will work with are large and complex, requiring sophisticated software and infrastructure solutions. Your expertise in metadata management and integration of diverse datasets, such as biobanks, clinical trials, and molecular measurement data, will be vital.

About SciLifeLab, TEF-Health, and Karolinska Institutet

SciLifeLab is a national research center for molecular biosciences in Sweden, dedicated to providing cutting-edge technologies and expertise in molecular life sciences. With a strategic focus on precision medicine, SciLifeLab is also spearheading the billion-dollar Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) initiative, in collaboration with eleven partner organizations. This position is based at Karolinska Institutet, where you will work with the Precision Medicine team and the DDLS program’s Data Science Node (DSN) for Precision Medicine and Diagnostics.

TEF-Health promotes the testing and implementation of trustworthy AI technology in health, offering both virtual and physical test facilities for data-driven research. The Swedish node of TEF-Health, operated from Karolinska Institutet, collaborates closely with SciLifeLab and RISE to support small and medium-sized companies, as well as academic and clinical users.

Your mission

As a Data base coordinator, you will support the precision medicine team with your expertise in metadata management. You will collaborate with the Swedish node of TEF-Health and the TEF-Health consortium on metadata management, dataset curation, and data accessibility. Your role will involve working closely with DSN/DC at Karolinska Institutet and SciLifeLab to develop well-curated, sensitive data structures. This position is based in Solna and may require some travel within the EU.

Tasks

Karolinska Institutet is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Data base coordinator with a focus on precision medicine to join SciLifeLab’s precision medicine team in Solna. In this role, you will:

  • Participate in User Support and Development of Data Services: Focus on research data management according to the FAIR principles, metadata management, and data annotation.
  • Communicate with Users: Provide support to various projects and activities, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Support Communities: Establish governance and engage in educational activities to foster a collaborative environment.
  • Develop Support and Services: Enable research projects in precision medicine and diagnostics, often in collaboration with healthcare partners.
  • Collaborate on Technical Solutions: Work with engineers and developers from other organizations to create solutions that ensure high security, data integrity, and interoperability.
  • Manage Large and Complex Datasets: Address the high demands on software and infrastructure required for handling extensive datasets.
  • Standardize Metadata: Develop solutions for the management and standardization of metadata, ensuring seamless integration of diverse datasets. 

Your profile

We are looking for a driven, outgoing, and meticulous individual with a university degree in bioinformatics, life sciences, or a related field. You should have a strong interest in metadata curation and data accessibility, with experience in medical research and handling sensitive data being advantageous. You should be able to work independently, drive initiatives forward, and collaborate effectively. Proficiency in English and Swedish, both spoken and written, is essential.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must have a university degree in a subject related to the position. In addition, the following is required:

  • Education (Masters thesis level ) from bioinformatics or life science research
  • Documented experience from scientific data management, FAIR and open science
  • Experience from research support, meta-data management, data curation and working with semantic standards
  • Fluent in English.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Additional qualifications:

  • Good ability in scientific communication
  • Experience with systems for documentation and version control with Git
  • Ability to work both individually and in collaboration with colleagues in different fields
  • Enterprise, initiative and an interest in supporting Swedish research in data-driven life sciences.
