We are looking for a senior lecturer who wants to lead and develop education within dermatology and venereology. We offer an internationally leading academic environment at Karolinska Institutet in collaboration with Karolinska University Hospital and the clinical dermatology and venereology health care units in Region Stockholm.
The Department of Medicine Solna (MedS) has a well-established and strong educational and research profile in medicine and biomedicine at a high international level. The education at the department, especially within the medical program, spans large parts of the clinical medical field over several semesters. The subject of dermatology and venereology is a strong research and clinical area, focusing on inflammation and mechanistic research in disease development, which is continuously evolving. The Division of Dermatology and Venereology has research groups at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) and Bioclinicum that conduct research on inflammatory and malignant skin diseases, leg ulcers, genetic diseases, and molecular mechanisms of skin inflammation. The division has a significant educational responsibility within the medical program and a long tradition of high-quality teaching.
We are looking for a clinical teacher and researcher at lecturer level who can develop the pedagogical activities and the translational research in dermatology and venereology at the department. To strengthen the implementation and development of education in undergraduate and doctoral education, and we are looking for a teacher who is deeply committed to education and has a clinical background in dermatology and venereology.
As clinical researcher your role is to be engaged in and develop the experimental, clinical, and/or epidemiological research in dermatology and venereology at the division. We are looking for a clinical role model with a genuine interest in education and a great pedagogical competence to ensure that the next generation of doctors leave Karolinska Institutet provided with excellent preparations to manage dermatological and venereological diagnoses throughout the healthcare system.
In the role as senior lecturer, you will be independently responsible for further developing the education in dermatology and venereology at KI’s medical program.
You are also expected to participate in the development of educational activities in clinical dermatology for clinical colleagues, during or after specialist training, in close collaborations with hospitals and units that conduct healthcare and research activities in dermatology and venereology.
You will be based at the department of medicine Solna and the clinical units that are part of dermatology and venereology at Karolinska University Hospital, with a main activity located at the unit where education is conducted.
The position will be combined with 50% work as specialist trained physician (either at specialist, consultant or senior consultant level) in dermatology and venereology at the department of gastroenterology/dermatology/rheumatology, theme inflammation and aging at Karolinska University Hospital.
To be eligible for an employment as a senior lecturer with a focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific skills, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical skills, very good scientific skills and clinical skill (eee the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).
Independent and active research at a high international level is required to apply for this position.
Additional clinical requirements
Further, it is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
The position will be combined with a clinical appointment as a specialist physician, assistant chief physician or chief physician in dermatology and venereology at Karolinska University Hospital. Therefore, applicants must have a Swedish MD with specialist competence in dermatology and venereology, as well as fulfill the requirements of the National Board of Health and Welfare’s requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.
Since the employment includes clinical work, you must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale, CERS).
The employment has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (2), pedagogical skills (3), leadership and collaboration skills (1), and clinical skills (3).
