The Department is organized in 10 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Surgery, Neuropediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, Neonatology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Neuropsychiatry (KIND), Reproductive and Perinatal Health. The divisions have separate scientific profiles and vary in size and have several research groups, dealing with both basic and clinical science.

A doctoral position is an available doctoral education project to which a PhD student is to be recruited. After the selection process the process for admission to doctoral education will commence. An admission decision will not be taken until an individual study plan has been approved by the departmental admission board.

Research group
The project has its basis at the Childhood Cancer Research Unit. We study psychological and socioeconomic consequences of somatic disease, primarily childhood cancer. Supervisors will be Annika Lindahl Norberg, psychologist, ass. prof; Emma Hovén, behavioural scientist, PhD; Scott Montgomery, clinical epidemiologist, prof; and Mats Heyman, paediatric oncologist, ass. prof. The project group includes researchers representing areas of psychology, clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, clinical pediatric oncology, and social work, and we cooperate with researchers at Uppsala University, Stockholm University, and University of Gävle.

The doctoral education project and the duties of the student
The doctoral education project will be in the context of an ongoing project investigating the socioeconomic effects of childhood cancer on parents. Specifically, the four studies outlined in the doctoral education project aim to investigate effects on parents’ income, employment probabilities, sick leave and occupational and family roles. The student will be given the opportunity to acquire and integrate knowledge of different methodologies: epidemiological approach using quantitative registry data, and qualitative approach using data from focus group interviews. The student is expected to be involved in data collection, statistical analyses, qualitative analyses, and manuscript production.
