The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) conducts research and education in the field of neuroscience from the molecular level to the society level. The Division of Eye and Vision within CNS focuses on ophthalmology, optometry and basic visual biology. The Pete Williams Research group (Glaucoma) seeks to recruit a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to research on ocular neurodegeneration. The group is uniquely placed for translational research thanks to its location within St. Erik Eye Hospital adjacent to the Solna research campus.
The successful applicant will conduct research with a focus on ocular neurodegeneration. The glaucoma research group has a current focus on mechanisms of neurodegeneration and neuroprotection, in particular; neurodegeneration, neuro-metabolism, and neuroinflammation. The group seeks to strengthen its focus on novel treatment strategies focusing on neuronal metabolism; specifically NAD biology. The candidate is expected to maintain established networks and collaborations (basic, translational, and clinical in nature) with other groups at the division, the department, at KI, nationally and internationally, as well as outreach to the general society, in addition to key industry/pharma partners that the lab is working with.
The Pete Williams Lab is situated at St. Erik Eye Hospital, Solna, and the hired applicant will have the chance to interact and work in an international environment with multidisciplinary basic research scientists, clinicians, and research clinicians.
We are seeking an ambitious researcher who is showing career momentum towards becoming an independent researcher (academic or industry). The candidate should demonstrate enthusiasm toward basic and translational research and aim to contribute to our research programs focusing on neuronal metabolism using animal models and novel pharmacology. The candidate should also show enthusiasm towards bettering human health through basic and translatable neurobiology. The successful candidate must have a PhD with a strong background in either neuroscience, ophthalmology/visual sciences, biomedical sciences, or pharmacology. Previous experience with rodent models of ocular degenerations, medicinal chemistry/pharmacology, and metabolic assays is an asset. Practical experience in rodent husbandry, molecular biology techniques, basic neuroscience techniques, microscopy techniques, and -pharmacology is essential. The candidate must be proficient in English, both spoken and written.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a phd or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish phd is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision.
