Alterations in mRNA translation are emerging as key factors in several diseases including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and cancer. Yet, the molecular mechanisms underlying how dysregulated mRNA translation arise and contributes to human diseases are incomletely understood. The Larsson lab drives development of both wet-lab and dry-lab methods to unveil molecular unerpinnings of dysregulated mRNA translation in ASD and cancer. As a post-doc you will join a multi-disciplinary team focusing on an underappreciated mechanism of gene expression-regulation.
The Larsson lab is a research group within the Department of Oncology-Pathology at Karolinska Institutet and is situated at the Science For Life Laboratory at the Solna Campus. The focus of the group is on achieving transcriptome-wide and detailed molecular understanding of how mRNA translation is dysregulated in disease. The lab has expertise in development of state-of-the-art methods for large-scale wet-lab studies of mRNA translation as well as development of computational tools to analyse the generated data. The post-doc will use advanced molecular biology approaches to generate large data sets quantifying various aspects of the mRNA translation process, which will be analysed to gain detailed mechanistic insights. The project requires expertise in RNA/molecular biology and/or bioinformatics/biostatistics. Therefore, the position offers a unique opportunity to broaden the expertise by working in close collaboration with members of the Larsson lab with complementary expertise.
This project is focused on understanding how mRNA translation is altered in human disease. Studies will include both in-vitro models and patient samples with the overarching goal of understanding mechanisms coordinating changes in mRNA translation, identification of drug targets for therapy and characterization of subsets of patients who may benefit from such therapy.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
